face sth. (or sb.)，face up to sth.，be faced with sth.，这三个词组在意思和用法上都有所不同，所以在我们英语的实际使用中需要对它们加以辨析。

01face sth.(or sb.)

face sth.(or sb.)中动词 face 后面可以接sth，也可以接sb，接sth时，可是表示地方处所或方向等名词，也可以是其他名词。接地方处所名词时，表示主语所处的状况;接贬义名词时，表示主语的动作行为。

例如:

She turned round and faced me with a happy smile.

她转过身来，面对着我,脸上洋溢着开心的微笑。

The windows of our drawing room face the zoo.

我们画室的窗户朝着动物园。

The gate of our school faces south.

我们学校的校门朝南。

Thus we shall have to face danger.

这样，我们将不得不冒险。

02face up to sth

face sth.(sth为带贬义的名词)可以引伸出face up to sth.,意思是“勇敢地面对”“勇敢地对待”。

例如:

Everybody should face up to his responsibilities.

大家都应该勇敢地面对自己的责任。

She had to face up to the fact that she would never attend the entrance examination of Beijing Universtiy.

她必须敢于面对现实：她再也不能参加北京大学的入学考试了。

She had to face up to his own inadequacies as a mother.

她不得不正视自身作为母亲的不足之处。

03be faced with sth

be faced with sth., 这个词组是系表结构，表示主语所处的状况，并且主语通常是人，with后面接事物，不接人。

例如:

The soldiers were faced with danger.

士兵们面临着危险。

At that time we were faced with great difficulties.

那时，我们正面临着严重的困难。

If the situation in our findings goes on, we may be faced with a financial crisis among the old people who cant pay off their credit cards.

如果我们发现的这些情况一直持续下去，我们会看到老年人陷入财务危机，无法还清信用卡债务。
