#英语丰富多彩的习语#

每个人都要在不同的时候做不同的决定，有的决定是人生的转折点，因此有人经常说选择比努力重要；对的选择可以事半功倍，但是错的选择往往事倍功半，而且造成的影响常常是根深蒂固的，估计磨刀不误砍柴工就是这个意思。

在英语中，决定可以用名词“decision”来表示，那么做决定就是 make/take ones decision，后面可以接动词不定式，例如：

Our boss took the decision to go ahead with the project.

我们的老板决定继续进行这个项目。

Well make a decision on that further down the line.

我们将在以后的阶段对此问题作出决策。

我们还可以用短语 be up to sb 来表示“由…决定”；作此义时，to 后面只能接人，而且它常见出现在口语中，例如：

Its up to the manager to make the final decision.

由经理做出最后决定。

Shall we eat out or stay in? Its up to you.

咱们是到外面吃饭还是待在家里？你决定吧。

If it were up to me, I’d do it.

如果由我决定，我会做的。

Be up to sb，还可以表示“是…的职责（或责任）”，例如：

Its not up to you to discipline my children!

管教我的孩子不是你的责任。

We live in this community, so its up to us to improve it.

我们生活在这个社区里，所以我们改善它是我们的责任。

但是需要注意的是，up to 还可以接除人以外的东西，而且意思发生很大的变化，常见的主要有以下几种：

1.意为“到达（某数量、程度等）；至多有”，例如：

Up to two hundred people were on board the ship.

船上有多达200人。

The temperature finally went up to 38C.

温度最终上升到38摄氏度。

2.意为“不迟于，直到”等，相当于 up until，例如：

Up to yesterday, we had no idea where the cat was.

直到昨天，我们还不知道猫在哪里。

3.意为“与…一样高（或好）”，例如：

Its latest product isnt up to its normal standard.
