Heavy rains have been continuing in Southern China, with severe impacts being reported. Guangdong and Fujian provinces have been hit hard by the deluge. Authorities confirmed that at least nine people were killed so far, with more than 10 others still unaccounted for. Pingyuan county in Guangdongs Meizhou city was most affected. Thousands of firefighters were dispatched with rubber boats and helicopters for rescue. Many local schools and kindergartens suspended classes.

One of the worst-affected areas is Wuping county, where numerous injuries and deaths were reported. The emergency team is still searching for the missing ones and transferring the affected to safer areas. Other provinces like Hunan and Jiangxi are also affected by the downpour. Multiple landslidesand traffic disruptionswere reported. The Central Meteorological Observatory is warning that the rainfall belt is expected to shift northward over the next three days.
